Dos and Don’ts During the Holiday Season

The holidays are a time for family, food and fun. Don’t ruin any of that by neglecting your hearing aids!

If you are traveling or away from home, the added stress of finding an open audiologist isn’t something you want to deal with. Follow these tips and you won’t have a thing to worry about.

  1. Bring everything you need + an extra pair of batteries.

Your host may or may not have enough outlets to charge all your gear. Bring a power strip with you to curb any issues. Make sure you pack your charger and an extra set of batteries. Family gatherings sometimes go late, and you don’t want to miss out on the fun because your batteries died.

  1.  Store your hearing aids and gear up high or in a confined space.

Pets, kids, well-meaning family members – all are a danger to your hearing aids. If they aren’t in your ears, they should be stored in a safe, dry place. It’s ideal to have a dehumidifier, because moisture and hearing aids don’t mix.

  1. Wear them!

Unless you are purposely trying to avoid certain conversations, your hearing aids do you no good unless  you are wearing them. Keep them charged and use them!

  1. When traveling, don’t worry about taking them out.

TSA security does not require you to remove your hearing devices. But, you should let them know you are wearing them. Also, all devices, even those with wifi are fine to use on an airplane.

  1. Don’t forget to bring your cleaning supplies

You don’t want to use just anything, and you don’t want to not clean them for several days. This goes along with #1 and bringing everything you need, but we wanted to add emphasis because sometimes they aren’t at the forefront of your mind.

The bottom line is, the holidays only come around once a year.

If you arrive prepared, your hearing aids will be something adding to the natural stress of spending time with those you love the most.
