Hearing Loss Study: Can Bananas Help Support Your Hearing Health?

New research shows that the high levels of potassium in bananas plus other key nutrients can help protect you from both age related and environmental hearing loss. The study also found that zinc helps protect you against tinnitus. As more research is also being conducted, it is evident that nutritional deficiency is emerging as a growing cause of hearing loss. Here are some tips and details on maintaining a healthy, balanced diet that will keep your hearing along with the rest of your body healthy and strong. In addition to potassium, you should looks for foods high in magnesium, vitamin B12 and folic acid to preserve your hearing health.

How Many Bananas Should You Eat a Day?

What does this mean for your diet? The recommended daily allowance of potassium is 4,700 mg. Most people don’t meet even the minimum daily recommendation. Eating bananas (or other foods high in potassium) to achieve a high level of potassium can prevent hearing loss, but it doesn’t mean that it will cure or help restore your hearing if you have an impairment present already. One banana is about 12% of that. Start researching those banana recipes! What if you don’t like bananas?

Tinnitus is a frustrating problem that affects about 15% of the population chronically and about 30% of people experience it at some point during their lives. While there are several treatment options, there is no cure for tinnitus. The recommended daily intake of zinc is 11 mg per day for men and 8 mg per day for women.
